In 2018, my mom and I chose a very unconventional spring break destination: the Straights of Mackinac!
We desperately wanted to see the blue ice formations that formed that winter, so we decided to drive up and spend the night in Mackinaw City (which is a ghost town in March) just so we could spend some time photographing the ice. Boy, was it worth it! We had a great time walking the beach and marveling at the large, snow covered piles of baby blue ice. This type of compact ice only forms every once and a while, which is why we made the special trip. We spent the day on the beach taking photos, and woke up early in morning to watch the sunrise, eating piping hot oatmeal on the beach out of coffee cups, courtesy of the hotel breakfast bar. It was absolutely beautiful, ridiculously cold, and hilarious to me that it was spring break!
